Upgrade on the Zambezi Toll Plaza ramps

Good news for motorists using the Zambesi Toll Plaza.

The Bakwena Platinum Corridor Concessionaire, operator of the N1 and N4 freeway, announced the completion of the upgrade to the Zambesi Toll Plaza off- and on-ramps earlier this week.

“The upgrade included two additional lanes on the off-ramp and two more to the on-ramp,” spokesperson Thando Kazi said.

The revamp was the first stage of the planned R160 million upgrade of the Zambesi, Pumulani, Stormvoël, Doornpoort, Brits and Marikana plazas along the N1 an N4 routes, scheduled to run until next December.

According to Kazi, on completion, the upgrade will reduce travel times by more than 20 minutes at certain plazas.

“The upgrade was necessitated by increased traffic volumes along the corridor, necessitating an expansion to the capacity of our toll plazas,” said commercial manager, Liam Clarke.

He said e-tag lanes had been increased and to incentivise, road-users to swap to this quicker method of paying, Bakwena was offering a free tags with a R50 credit and a R50 shopping gift voucher to customers who registered for the tags.

He said the e-tag benefit to motorists was a quicker for motorists because they didn’t have to stop to make the payment.

The Brits and Marikana upgrades are scheduled to commence in February.
