A young Soshanguve rapper, Mandla Malabela AKA Bikiza is regarded by many as a breath of fresh air.
The new kid on the block, Bikiza, has a dream to one day infiltrate and dominate the landscape currently ruled by the likes of AKA and Cassper Nyovest.
He had no qualms telling Rekord this week that he undoubtedly was the most talented and upcoming of rappers.
Bikiza recently dropped a nine-track album titled Dust to Gold Hustle.
“The album which consists of tracks such as ‘Ngibonga abazali’, ‘I adore you’, and ‘Kumoshakele’, to name but a few, contains some well thought-out lyrics and an honest take on my life,” he said.
He said from the first track, the album grabs the listener’s attention.
“I was born in Nelspruit but grew up in Soshanguve,” he says.
He said his love for music developed at a young age.
“I do rap, I am a singer, performing artist, composer and writer. It has been a nice journey working with my producer Joe Cymphonic,” he added.
“I think rap was something instilled in me very early on. I listened to it as much as possible and my friends were surprised when they saw how I was reciting it. I guess that’s when I fell in love with the theatrical part of it as well,” he recalled.
Some of Bikiza’s career highlights include performing at official opening of Mbombela Stadium in 2007.
“I have done many shows in Soshanguve, Winterveldt, Mabopane, and Tembisa,” he said.
He said his music had been played on several community radio stations over the past few years.
“When you are destined for greatness, nothing can stop you,” he said.
“My first single album was released in 2015 and gained popularity via online downloads,” he said.
In his short music career, Bikiza had already rubbed shoulders with some of the legends in South African music industry.
“I have had great pleasure in sharing the stage with other popular local artists such as Dj Oskido, Rhythmic Elements, Chomie, Dj Cleo, Ntando and many more,” he said.
