More than 47 people were arrested in Ga-Rankuwa in the north of Pretoria at the weekend.
Police said a number of shebeens was also raided.
Spokesperson Captain Matthews Nkoadi said the arrests were made in the Ga-Rankuwa policing precinct.
The swoop included roadblocks, stop-and- searches routines and patrols.
The charges against those arrested included possession of drugs; assault with intent to cause bodily harm; illegal immigration; shoplifting; malicious damage to property; house break-in and theft.
Other charges were rape; assault common; public violence; possession of a stolen motor vehicle; driving and drinking; and failing to appear in court.
The people arrested were expected to appear in various courts around Gauteng during the week.
Nkoadi said illegal immigrants rounded up would be deported with the help of the Department of Home Affairs.
