A Pretoria North business is challenging all peers to donate to their nearest animal shelter.
Principal agent Lorna Marwick said the donation was for food.
“Wollies support those that cannot speak for themselves…animals that have been abused and abandoned – the least I feel we can do is help by supporting them,” said Marwick.
Owner of Wollies, Cilla Trexler, thanked Marwick for the generous donation.
“Just the previous week we were in desperate need of pet food,” said Trexler.
“This donation will help us greatly and we really appreciate it.”
The non-profit organisation was established in 2003 “with one goal in mind, and that was to assist people in disadvantaged areas who could not afford the normal sterilisation rates for their animals”.
“We were fortunate enough to find a vet who reduced their rates to make it more affordable to the community,” said Trexler adding that Wollies rescued and rehomed abandoned animals.
“Unfortunately, more animals are abandoned rather than adopted.”
Wollies shelters around 800 dogs and 400 cats.
Marwick challenged local businesses to match her donation.
“This is for a good cause,” she said.
“If everyone contributes something, we can make a huge difference together.”
