Sosh Block LKK in grip of water leak crises

The Tshwane metro has urged residents to follow the correct channels when reporting service delivery matters.

Spokesperson Lindela Mashigo told Rekord this week failure to correctly file a complaint made it difficult for metro to assist residents with problems such as burst water pipes including leaking sewage and meters.

He was responding to a complaint by Soshanguve block LKK residents who told Rekord they had reported a leak in November last year.

“We really need to help our community but we cannot reach that point because of incorrect procedures of reporting problems. Residents must come to the municipal offices to report problems. They must not go to their ward councillors,” explained Mashigo.

Resident Marrium Manyama said burst pipes led to more problems such as potholes “apart from the obvious waste of water”.

“South Africa is water scarce country; we should be looking after our resources,” said Manyama.

Manyama said she blamed the poor service delivery and a lack of responsibility on the ward councillor.

Another resident, Simon Masilela also said a pipe he reported leaking in November last year was still leaking.

“I reported it at the municipal office, and the local councillor passes by the burst pipe regularly but seems not to care,” said Masilela.

Councillor Poppy Maseka said she did not interfere in the matters related to services.

“Residents do not attend meetings. They would know which procedures to follow. I do not deal with water crisis directly.

Residents must report issues to the municipal offices and upon that, they will receive a reference number to make a follow up with,” explained Maseka.
