North son-in-law on the run after shooting couple

Spokesperson, Captain Mathews Nkoadi confirms to Record that an elderly couple in Mabopane Block U was allegedly shot on Saturday by their son-in-law.

A Mabopane couple is recovering at the George Mukhari hospital after they were allegedly shot by their son-in-law.

Ga-Rankuwa police spokesperson Captain Mathews Nkoadi said the shooting took place around 19:00 on Saturday after a 35-year-old man visited the couple.

The suspect allegedly shot the 61-year-old man and his wife (56) in the upper body.

“He is currently married to the couple’s daughter and has a history of violence. The daughter filed for a protection order [against him] and recently moved back to her parents’ house. We suspect he was disgruntled about that,” said Nkoadi.

Nkoadi said the daughter was out when the shooting took place and the 61-year-old managed to escape and called for help.

“We responded to a call at about 20:00…the suspect had fled and is still at large,” said Nkoadi.

The suspect is facing two charges of attempted murder and another of pointing of a firearm.
