Police operation nets 50 in the north

Fifty people were arrested around Mabopane in weekend police operations.

Spokesperson Captain Rheineth Motlana said the operation was held jointly by Loate and Mabopane SAPS.

“The main focus was raiding illegal liquor outlets, tracing wanted suspects as well as heightened police visibility at hotspots including shopping complexes,” she said.

Motlana said the arrests were for various crimes including possession of dagga, traffic offences, illegal gambling, public drinking, shoplifting and possession of unlicensed firearm.

Motlana said the suspects were expected in court soon.

“The operations will continue to ensure that our communities are safe and crime-free throughout the festive season,” she said.
