Man killed with hammer in north shop robbery

The police are investigating a murder after a man’s body was found in a shop in Sinoville last week.

Police spokesperson Warrant Officer Johan van Dyk said the body was discovered by a shop employee who called the police.

“The cash register was open and judging by the wound on the deceased’s head, it appeared he was hit with a blunt object.”

Van Dyk said a hammer, the suspected murder weapon, was found in the store.

“The hammer was wrapped in a towel,” he said.

“Thanks to our detectives and police officers we were able to make an arrest shortly after the body was discovered.”

Van Dyk said the arrested a man was found in possession of items missing from the shop.

Van Dyk could not reveal the identity of the victim or give more details on the suspect for fear of jeopardising the investigation.
