A Winterveldt man accused of killing his father and cutting him into pieces has been referred for medical evaluation.

Solomon Malatsi (31) of Mmakaunyane, North of Pretoria, appeared in the Ga-Rankuwa Regional Magistrates Court on Wednesday.

“He has been sent for medical evaluation,” said police spokesperson Sergeant Thembi Nowathe.

“The court is yet to determine a date for his next appearance.”

Nowathe said Solomon was arrested on Wednesday April 5 after he allegedly shot dead his 56-year-old father Joseph Gideon Malatsi.

“He allegedly chopped up his father’s body afterwards with a hacksaw and knife,” she said.

The murder took place at the family’s home in Mmakaunyana near Winterveldt on Wednesday April 5 around 17:00.

The man apparently put his father’s body parts in separate plastic bags in a refrigerator.

The rest of his body was covered in a plastic bag.

The culprit’s younger sister and mother said they were outside when they heard a gunshot inside the house.

They said they ran to the house to investigate.

“The suspect stopped them from entering the house,” said Nowathe.

He said the neighbours called the police.

Nowathe said the son only opened the door when police arrived.

He said the culprit’s trousers were covered in blood.

“He apparently told police the gun he used was inside a kitchen unit.”
