Youth day celebrated on Ga-Rankuwa netball courts

Scores of young girls participated in the day-long netball event.

A community netball event was held in Ga-Rankuwa on Friday, in celebration of Youth day.

The event was held at Timberland netball court in Zone 20 under the theme “Working together for youth development and a drug free community.”

The day was organised by Happy Hearts Empowerment Centre, and supported by residents, including councillor Jabu Ramushu.

Facilitator Katlego Moleko said they were excited to host the event.

“It is a privilege that we are celebrating this day (16 June) in our own backyard for a change because we always see it being celebrated in the major cities,” said Moleko.

Scores of young girls participated in the day-long netball event as residents cheered them on.

“We are celebrating Youth day by doing something we love – sports.”

“We feel it’s the better option than the life of drugs and too many parties.”

Moleko said it was also important to remind the youth about the historic significance of the day.
