An animal shelter in the north of Pretoria is seeking help after its building burnt down on Friday night.

The fire blazed through the dog cage, damaging the roof, water tanks and food stock at the One Stop Animal Rescue in Akasia.

Owner Mandi Luther said she was lucky someone saw the flames before it was too late.

“Luckily the fire was put out quickly and the dogs escaped unharmed.”

She said a man who was driving past heard the dogs barking loudly, non-stop and went in to see what was happening.

“The man, who was with his daughter, tried to stop the fire before the security and a fire brigade arrived.”

She said it was unclear what caused the fire.

Luther asked for donations to rebuild the shelter and food stock.

“Anyone who wishes to donate can contact me on 076-207-3640,” she said.
