UPDATE: R21 still closed after accident

The R21, near the Olifantsfontein off-ramp, is still closed after a truck crashed into electrical poles on Friday morning.

Traffic SA made the announcement around 15:00 on Friday.

Motorists were advised to use alternative routes.

“A truck collided with electric poles at 07:00, which affected some cables,” TMPD spokesperson Isaac Mahamba said earlier.

Mahamba said emergency services took the driver to hospital in a serious, but stable condition.

“At this stage it is not clear what happened as we are yet to interview or a get formal statement from the driver.”

He urged residents who might have witnessed the accident to contact the TMPD on 012-358-7095/6 or their nearest police station.
